The Schweighofer Prize awarded for the 7th time in Vienna
The Schweighofer Prize, the Innovation Award for the European Forest-Based Sector, was awarded for the 7th time in Vienna on June 17, 2015. The prize equal to 300 000 Euros was shared by the representatives from Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
The Schweighofer Prize, the Innovation Award for the European Forest-Based Sector, was awarded for the 7th time in Vienna on June 17, 2015. Over 700 visitors from 41 countries from the international wood sector and representatives from the fields of research and economy took part in the ceremony. Dr. Erich Wiesner, CEO of the Wiehag Group, received the main prize for his life’s work. “Dr. Wiesner has developed his company into a leading timber Construction Company in Europe. The completed projects present impressive and technically demanding constructions”, said jury chairman Univ. Prof. Dr. Alfred Teischinger.
On the day after the Schweighofer Prize event speakers from Europe and around the world addressed key trends, issues and the outlook for Europe, North America and key international sawn wood and panel markets at the WOOD MARKETS «Vienna International Wood Products/Markets Conference». Carsten Doehring, the CEO of Ilim Timber Germany, made a presentation on German woodworking industry.
The Schweighofer Prize is donated by the Austrian Schweighofer family, which has been engaged in the European woodworking industry for generations. It rewards innovative ideas, technologies, products and services. Since 2003 the award is presented every second year, and is endowed with a total prize money of € 300,000. The Schweighofer Prize is divided into a main award and various innovation awards.
