Paul Herbert, a member of Ilim Timber Board of Directors, participated in major North-American log & lumber conference
Softwood Log & Lumber Conference 2015 took part in Vancouver on May 7th, 2015. Paul Herbert, the chairman of Ilim Timber Strategic Committee, presented the information on the Russian sawmilling industry.
Softwood Log & Lumber Conference is traditionally held in Vancouver along with the major event in pulp & paper sector, organized by PWC. In 2015 the Conference gathered 300 representatives of sawmilling companies, traders, representatives of financial sector and experts.
Paul Herbert’s presentation covered the situation in the sawmilling industry in Russia, its perspectives and the impact on the world softwood sawn timber and log markets. The presentation drew great attention due to the macroeconomic changes in Russia and the increase of lumber export from Russia. As Russia is ranked among the top exporters of sawn timber to China, Paul Herbert’s expert opinion presented interest for everyone.
“Russia has significant potential for the development of sawmilling and wood-working industries, primarily, in eastern Siberia and Far East. Today these regions are the most prospective for investments in global scale,” - remarked Paul Herbert.
